This is a Cannonball Tree (Couroupita guianensis).

In Thailand, it is known as Sal (ต้นสาละ), though it's often confused with the "true" Sal tree (Shorea robusta) under which the Buddha was born. Because of this spiritual association, you will very frequently find these planted on the grounds of Thai Buddhist temples.

Occasionally I run into these trees and have to stop and stare. So beautiful.
