This is a Cannonball Tree ( Couroupita guianensis ). In Thailand, it is known as Sal ( ต้นสาละ ), though it's often confused with the "true" Sal tree ( Shorea robusta ) under which the Buddha was born. Because of this spiritual association, you will very frequently find these planted on the grounds of Thai Buddhist temples. Occasionally I run into these trees and have to stop and stare. So beautiful.
